A Presence in the Public Square: Equipping Leaders for Ministry at the Intersection

About Us

Located in the heart of the nation's capital, Mount Vernon Square is the fruit of a growing collaboration between Wesley Theological Seminary, Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church and Asbury United Methodist Church. The partnership seeks to bring the strengths and stories of each of these historic institutions to bear on the life and health of the city as well as in the development of best practices for urban ministry and public theology to be translated across the country.

Resilient DC Community Forum

Resilient D.C. is a collaborative project sponsored by the District of Columbia Department of Health (DC DOH) that aims to bring together government and community-based partners to build a more resilient community in the face of natural and manmade disasters. As these events become more frequent, communities are confronted with new challenges of how to work together to bolster the ability of the whole community to respond and recover quickly and effectively from each disaster.

Wesley @ MVS invites community leaders and members interested to join us in attending the Community Forum on May 15th.  Resilient DC will be hosting the event at the District Architecture Center from 9 AM - 2 PM.  Registration for the event is available via the above link, and you can view the flyer for the event here.   We hope to see you there!

The Maryland-DC Campus Compact recently announced the award of an AmeriCorps VISTA member through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to Wesley Theological Seminary for the 2013-2014 year.  The volunteer will begin serving with the Wesley @ MVS staff in June to expand the capacity of the Heal the Sick Program in Washington, D.C and Baltimore, Maryland. Participation in this volunteer service program is an example of the committment of Wesley @ MVS to build campus-community partnerships that help eliminate poverty and health disparities in the region.
