DIALOGUE ON SOLUTIONS TO CONTEMPORARY SLAVERY
Wesley Theological Seminary and the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives present a “Dialogue on Solutions to Contemporary Slavery.” As we approach the 150th anniversary of the 13th Amendment, join us on November 19 from 12:15 -1:30 pm at Wesley Downtown for a fruitful discussion reflecting on the following questions: What does the 13th Amendment mean to us today? Are we complicit in contemporary forms of slavery? Can the Church lead a modern anti-slavery movement?
Our guide for this event is Kenneth B. Morris, who is a dual direct descendent of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington. Come and hear about this important topic facing the 21st century church! Please RSVP to email@example.com by November 14. Space is limited and lunch will be served.
TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE MEMORIAL SERVICE
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Of Sacred Worth is sponsoring a memorial service for those in our community who have suffered this brutality. Rev. Allyson Robinson from Calvary Baptist Church (located near Wesley Downtown) will be our guest speaker. Please join us on Thursday, November 20 from 12 - 12:45 pm in Oxnam Chapel.
COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER
The annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be on Thursday November 20 and it will be hosted by Student Council. The meal will take place from 5 to 6:30 pm. All members of the Wesley community are invited to enjoy this free meal in the refectory.

NATIONAL CAPTIAL SEMESTERS FOR SEMINARIANS
Immerse yourself in faith and politics this spring with NCSS. Enroll in Wesley’s National Capital Semester for Seminarians and earn credit immersed in the ethical and spiritual dimensions of faithful political engagement. This semester-long, intensive study in ethics, theology and public policy attracts students from across the country each spring.
NCSS students engage with: the White House, the State Department, Congress, non-profit groups, denominational offices, media outlets, other faith traditions, people from across the political and theological spectrum, and people who use their ministries to impact the decisions of our nation. NCSS coursework includes opportunities to interact with policy writers and implementers, and gain hands-on experience in policy research, advocacy and implementation. A CALL FOR ACTORS & ASSISTANT DIRECTOR!
The cast is almost complete but there are still opportunities to be part of the presentation of “Rejoice and Mourn – the death of martyrs”. This chancel drama is based on “Murder in the Cathedral” by T.S.Eliot and writings by and about Archbishop Oscar Romero. Directed by Fredericka Berger, who also prepared the script, it will be presented in Oxnam Chapel Tuesday, March 24. No acting experience required. You can be part of this chapel presentation either by taking a one credit Directed Study or simply committing to attending all rehearsals. Rehearsals will be on Friday evenings starting January 30. SUMMER FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY AT AUSCHWITZ
FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics), in collaboration with The Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, is now accepting applications for a fellowship that uses the conduct of the clergy during the Holocaust and in Nazi Germany as a launching point for a two-week intensive study of ethical issues facing religious leaders today. Fellowships include an all-expenses-paid trip from New York to Berlin, Krakow, and Oświęcim (Auschwitz) where students will work with leading faculty to explore both history and the ethical issues facing religious leaders today. All program costs, including international and European travel, lodging, and food, are covered. The 2015 FASPE Seminary program will run from June 14 to June 24, 2015. Completed applications must be received by Tuesday, December 23. Inter-faith dialogue is a central component of the FASPE Seminary program. All FASPE programs are non-denominational and students from all religious faiths are encouraged to apply. FASPE will make every effort to accommodate diverse religious and dietary needs. E-Transcripts cost $8 and paper copies cost $10 and all transcripts must be paid for with a USA based credit card. REGISTRATION FOR SPRING 2015 IS OPEN! Registration for Spring 2015 opened October 13, 2014. The J-Term and Spring 2015 schedules can be found online at www.wesleyseminary.edu/schedule. Students can register for classes online through WesleyWeb. Before students register, they should make sure they do not have any warnings or holds on their account which will prevent registration. J-TERM REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Students can register for 2015 J-Term classes online through WesleyWeb. Registration for J-Term closes on December 19 due to pre-course work that must be completed by the first day of the intensive term. Any drops after December 19 through the first day of the class must be made by using a paper Registration Form and will incur a $100 late drop fee. No drops are allowed in intensive classes after the first day of the class.
GRADUATION APPLICATIONS ARE PAST DUE! Graduation applications were due October 15, 2014. Any student intending to graduate in May 2015 must sign and complete a Graduation Application. Both the Masters and DMin Graduation Application forms can be found in the Registrar’s Office or online under the “Student Forms” section of the MyWesley website. If you have not submitted a Graduation Application and intend to graduate in May 2015, please do so as soon as possible.
DEGREE AUDITS: In light of the curriculum transition in Fall 2015, the Registrar’s Office recommends that if you are a current MDiv and MTS student that you request a degree audit to see what requirements you have left to complete under both the current and new curriculum, should you decide to switch to the new curricular requirements. To request a degree audit, please sign and complete the Degree Audit Request form, available under the “Student Forms” section of the MyWesley website or in the Registrar’s Office. Once complete, please submit the form to the Registrar’s Office either via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or in person. As current MDiv and MTS students will be able to opt into the new curricular requirements, the degree audit will show what requirements are left to complete under both curricula. The degree audit will also show any potential waivers and course equivalencies from courses already completed that may be applied to your degree plan under the new curriculum.
