Faculty: History of Christianity

Wesley Theological Seminary invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the History of Christianity, commencing July 1, 2015. General competence in all areas of church history is expected, and special expertise in the patristic era and in Methodist or Wesleyan studies is highly desired.  Membership in The United Methodist Church is required. Teaching responsibilities will include core introductory courses as well as elective courses. Experience and expertise in online instruction will be advantageous. Rank is open, but we expect to appoint at the Assistant or Associate level. Ph.D. required; M.Div. or equivalent degree preferred. Curator, Dadian Gallery (PT – 20 hrs/week – exempt)

Description:  Wesley Theological Seminary (WTS) seeks a part-time Curator for the Dadian Gallery.  The Curator will work with artists and collectors arrange for publicity, designs and installations of exhibits.   Maintains the Wesley Theological Seminary Collection and serves as a resource for WTS faculty.

Qualifications: The preferred candidate will possess a bachelors degree in visual art or arts management.  Knowledge of art history as well as contemporary trends in both secular and religious visual art is required as well as experience in the theory and practice of exhibition design, lighting, and graphic design; and sufficient theological background to discuss the relevancy of any given exhibition to the educational program of the Seminary and to the wider community of faith.

Interim Minister for Faith and Family Life

First Congregational United Church of Christ, Washington DC

This position creates, maintains, and continues to plan for the religious education and faith formation of First Congregational UCC’s children, youth, and their families.  It is a great short-term opportunity to work in a welcoming congregation of about 200 members, with a wonderful group of children and youth, a collegial staff and Christian Education Commission team, and in the heart of downtown DC.  

The interim position runs from January through June 2015 (with the possibility to begin earlier).   Depending on the candidate, the position will be from 10 to 15 hours a week. Compensation is based on Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ guidelines for clergy.   The position, however, may be for ordained or lay persons.

The work includes coordinating and equipping the educational ministry for children and youth, relating to and resourcing the active Christian Education Commission, advocating and planning for children in worship, managing child care workers, and may assist in evaluating the current state of our educational ministry.   This position will assist the congregation as we consider our hopes and needs for a permanent position.

Job Description: Sunday School Superintendent

PURPOSE: The Sunday School Superintendent coordinates and facilitates the smooth running of the Sunday School program, which seeks to ensure that children who attend come to know the Biblical faith in a safe, friendly, welcoming environment and where all may experience the love of God and be spiritually nurtured. An understanding of, and respect for, the faith and inclusive values of our church community are of critical importance, as is team work.

QUALIFICATIONS: (not in order of priority)

SINCERE FAITH AND CHRIST-CENTERED LIFE: The Sunday School Superintendent shall be a Christian, who has a desire to exercise faith and service through this ministry position.

Maintain accurate Sunday School records. With the help of the Christian Education Committee, identify, train, and motivate volunteers for assistance in this program.


1) Be present and prepared each Sunday morning before and after Sunday School to greet, support and encourage children, parents and teachers.

2) Responsible to monitor Sunday School classes and teachers and be prepared to teach classes if needed.

3) Work with the Interim Associate Pastor and Christian Education Committee to select, organize, maintain, and distribute Sunday School curriculum and supplies to equip teachers well.

4) Collect offerings and maintain attendance records.

5) Attends Christian Education Committee meetings, prepares and presents reports to Committee, and participates in planning special.

6) Prepare and deliver children’s sermon during corporate worship each Sunday. (negotiable)



1) The Sunday School Superintendent position is a part-time position (10 hours/week). A schedule of hours to be worked will be developed with the Interim Associate Pastor.

2) The salary will be determined by the Personnel Committee ($20-25/hour).

3) Performance reviews will be held in compliance with the Personnel Committee.

Children's Christian Education Coordinator ( Cheverly, MD)

10 hours per week – 12 months

At Cheverly United Methodist Church, inspiring children is an important step in achieving our church’s mission of making disciples of all people.  As part of our mission, it is vital to have a strong children’s program to attract and grow disciples. 

Cheverly United Methodist Church is a small, but growing, congregation. Our average church attendance is 70 adults and 15 children per Sunday. Church services begin at 10:00 a.m. and end between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m.

Children attend church in the sanctuary at the beginning of the service and go to Sunday School after Children’s Time, which has a message from the pastor or other members of the church. Sunday School begins at about 10:15 and ends by 11:30 a.m.

Vacation Bible School usually takes place for a week during June and operates in the evening for two hours.

Education Requirements:
Required: High School Graduate with some college courses.
Preferred: College Degree in a related field such as Christian Education, Christian Ministry, Theology, or Religious Studies.

Experience and Skills:
Required: Complete familiarity with Protestant church services, music and Sunday school. Working experience in a Sunday School, Christian Education Program, Vacation Bible School (VBS) or other similar programs involving children. Demonstrated ability to develop a children’s Christian education program.
Preferred: 2 to 5 years experience working in a church environment in Sunday School, Christian Education Program, Vacation Bible School or other relevant programs. Demonstrated ability to incorporate Christian music into children’s programming.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide opportunities for spiritual growth for children preschool through sixth grade by planning and teaching Sunday School lessons throughout the year.
