Announcements

2012 COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION!  Wesley Theological Seminary's 2012 Commencement is at the National Cathedral on Monday May 7, at 2 pm!  Congratulations to the graduands for all the hard work that led them to this milestone!  More information regarding Commencement logistics can be found at www.wesleyseminary.edu/commencement

PARKING FOR NON-GRADUATING STUDENTS AND WTS EMPLOYEES:  Please note that we are asking residential (non-graduating) students and staff to NOT park on campus during Commencement Day to allow the graduands and their families the use the Wesley parking lot.  Parking passes for parking at Katzen Arts garage are available from Debbie in the Development office (events@wesleyseminary.edu) and we ask ALL non-graduands or guests to utilize that option.

IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR WTS COMMUNITY!

HEALTH INSURANCE CHANGES FOR 2012 – 2013 For the 2012-2013 school year, Wesley has decided not to offer the EIIA (United Healthcare) insurance we have used this year and in the past. The Administration received a copy of the new insurance plan for 2012-2013 and has determined the cost is too prohibitive and the structure too inflexible to be a reasonable offering for our students.  The Wesley Board of Governors will be discussing this matter at the May 11 board meeting and making a decision in terms of the future of student insurance at Wesley. Please check your Wesley email after that date to know the Board’s determination so that you can act accordingly. The above decision does not impact the current United Healthcare coverage students have that is in effect until August 14, 2012.

POLICY CHANGE: DADIAN GALLERY AFTER HOURS OPENING POLICY  In order to make the Dadian Gallery available to departments for events taking place after hours or weekends a reservation form must be filled out 30 days in advance. A $25.00 staffing fee will be charged in order to open and close the gallery. An additional hourly fee will be assessed if an LCAR staff person is requested to be present during an event.

For your convenience you may consult the Gallery Schedule first (located under Policy/ Dadian Gallery on the G-drive) in order to determine if an exhibition will be mounted during your event. Although the gallery schedule is fixed up to two years in advance occasionally we have circumstances relating to the artists that require us to change the dates. Please contact the curator Alexandra Sherman (asherman@wesleyseminary.edu or ext. 8608) to be sure that the gallery will have an exhibition mounted during your event.  LCAR staff will endeavor to meet every request submitted within the 30 day window; however due to the fact that we have very few staff there may be some cases where we will be unable to satisfy the request.  The Gallery form will be available on the G-drive under FORMS and in the business office. It will be located on the back of the Audio Visual Request form.  Please fill it out and submit it to Diane Wogaman as you would your other room reservations.  Thank you very much for you cooperation. We look forward to making the Dadian available for your events.  Sincerely, The LCAR Staff

HOUSING NEEDS FOR 2012 – 2013 Wesley Theological Seminary housing is already at capacity for 2012-2013.  While anticipating housing relief for 2013-2014 through the new dorm project, Wesley is currently in need of additional housing off campus for a few new students for one academic year, 2012-2013.  Presently, two families need housing and potentially any additional married couples who may apply for fall semester. We are open to all considerations and configurations—subleased apartments, condos, and houses, etc.  Ideally we would prefer housing that is near Wesley or easily accessible by Metro or buses. If you know of any potential places for rent, please contact Amelia Masdin, Director of Housing, amasdin@wesleyseminary.edu or x8612 or Associate Dean Shelby Haggray, shaggray@wesleyseminary.edu or x8614. Thank you.

NON-SMOKING POLICY Wesley implemented a non-smoking policy on February 1. The new policy prohibits smoking within 25 feet of any campus building. This policy was discussed and approved by the Community Life Committee, the Faculty and the Administrative Council. The Community Life Office will be implementing a communication plan to  promote the policy to all the constituents at Wesley. It will also be identifying viable smoking cessation programs for those who would like to quit smoking. If you have questions concerning the new policy or any suggestions to help enforce it, contact Shelby Haggray at 202-885-8614 or shaggray@wesleyseminary.edu.
