Faculty Position in Worship

Wesley Theological Seminary seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Worship. The candidate should have competence in liturgy and worship. A strong candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach introductory level as well as advanced and doctoral level courses in liturgy and worship.
It is desirable for the successful candidate to show familiarity with and teach in all or most of the following areas:

  • History and practice of worship and liturgy
  • Preaching and its place in worship / Homiletics
  • Wesleyan worship history and practices 
  • Contemporary forms and emerging patterns of worship, including current visual media trends 
  • Diverse worship traditions 
  • Multicultural and global worship
  • Worship and the arts

The candidate should also have pastoral experience and the ability to contribute to the leadership of the seminary worship program. Communications Assistant, Lewis Center for Church Leadership

The position will provide communications assistance to the Lewis Center for Church Leadership. Position starts as soon as the selected candidate is available.

This position is responsible for the preparation of weekly, deadline driven communication material for the Lewis Center for Church Leadership. In particular the position will help the Center communicate about its work through its website (www.churchleadership.com), e-newsletters, and print publications.

Requires strong electronic communications skills, experience with websites, and knowledge of HTML and Dreamweaver. Also requires a strong knowledge of word processing and the Windows operating environment. Graphic presentation skills, desktop publishing skills, web media knowledge, and ability to connect with media outlets are integral to the position. A strong command of the English language and basic proof reading and editing skills are also needed. Attention to detail and good organizational skills are necessary. Experience with task- oriented, deadline-driven projects is essential, as is the ability to work cooperatively with others in a fast-paced team environment is crucial.

Program and Research Assistant, Lewis Center for Church Leadership

This position is responsible for assisting in implementing its program and research initiatives. Duties include for programs such things as planning for events, preparation of materials, monitoring of details, and assisting in the management of meetings both on and off campus. Duties for research projects include monitoring and following up on survey instruments, data analysis, preparing reports, and training in the Lewis Pastoral Leadership Inventory processing.

The successful applicant will have a college degree. Advanced degree may also be useful. Applicant must be proficient in database management and all Windows software applications, including Microsoft Office and Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Knowledge of web design, HTML and Dreamweaver desirable.

The position requires strong research skills (library, internet, and statistical), great attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities. Vice President for Development   

Wesley Theological Seminary seeks candidates for the role of Vice President for Development.  This position is responsible for the planning and general oversight of the development program at Wesley Theological Seminary, a graduate theological school of The United Methodist Church located in Washington, DC. The Vice President for Development is considered the senior development officer at Wesley and reports to the President. The VP for Development represents the Seminary in local churches, to small groups, and individuals through both mail and face to face appeals. The Vice President for Development is expected to spend a majority of time in major gift cultivation and solicitation and works directly with the President to coordinate his work in development. The Vice President for Development is a key part of the senior administrative team seeing to implement Wesley's strategic vision.

Qualifications include knowledge and love of the church and outstanding interpersonal skills. Prior experience in fundraising or leadership in higher education, the church or business are preferred. Bupyung Methodist Church in Bupyung, South Korea

Protestant Campus Minister at Colgate University 

The Protestant Campus Minister coordinates Protestant life on campus, including serving as pastor of University Church (the ecumenical Christian worshiping community on campus), collaborating and advising various campus Protestant Christian groups and supporting the spiritual and religious needs of the broader University community. Position Summary: Represent Church policies to government leaders, devise and execute legislative and communication strategy, propose and monitor federal legislation, write public policy statements and letters for Presiding Bishop, train Episcopalians nationwide in public policy advocacy, build coalitions to support policy priorities, and work with the media.

Qualifications -- Education, Experience, and Skills

Minimum of B.A. in political science or related degree. Minimum 3 years of direct hands-on legislative experience at the state or federal level. In-depth knowledge of the U.S. government and the federal policy making process, such as experience as an elected or appointed official at some level of government, Congressional staffer, Executive Branch official, or government relations representative.

Demonstrated interest in public policy issues, both foreign and domestic.
Commitment to represent positively and effectively the positions of the Episcopal Church.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to communicate effectively in many different formats.
Knowledge of grassroots advocacy techniques and promotion.

Reach out to the youth in the Harpers Ferry (HF) area through institutions/facilities presently in place: churches, schools, libraries, recreational facilities, etc.
Example: attend sports/social events at HF Middle School, representing the Youth Program

Create a "Youth Committee" to inform and help design activities. This committee of youth should reflect the demographics of the community being served. Meet with the committee on a regular basis.

Research established programs and facilities in the region, noting availability to HF youth and possible Youth Program affiliation or support.
Example: recreational facilities - parks, tennis courts, swimming pool, basketball court ... accessible with reasonable transportation support.

Develop programs/activities to meet youth needs identified.

The CRG provides resource recommendations, overview essays, special reports, interviews, and contextual information on more than 120 topics. Alban is currently hiring freelance writers, resource junkies, and Blog and Web 2.0 enthusiasts. Good writing and analytical skills and a passion for congregations are essential. Director for Church After School Child Care Program at Redeemer Lutheran Church, McLean Va

Seeking an individual to coordinate start-up of a Christian based after-school child care program for elementary school-aged children to begin September, 2008. Great church & working environment.

The director will help design and implement the curriculum and be lead teacher for the program. The church has a modern child friendly environment to include a gym and already has a well respected 100+ student preschool program. Position will require working weekday afternoons (2pm to 7pm) 25-30 hours per week.

Candidates should possess a BA or Master's degree in either curriculum development, early childhood education or previous educational experience to include work with after school programs. Compensation $20 to $25 per hour. Part time benefits available. Real possibility for position expansion if desired.

Adult Grow Ministries Coordinator at Floris UMC in Herndon, VA

Floris UMC, located in Herndon, VA, is seeking a part-time Adult Grow Ministries Coordinator to work 25 hours a week. This is a new position and reports to the Executive Director. The Adult GROW Ministries Coordinator is responsible for executing the Senior Pastor's strategic vision of the church by overseeing the development and execution of the Adult GROW Ministries, focusing on delivering a consistent, spiritual learning and growth experience for adults who participate in small groups, seminars, conferences, workshops, and individual growth activities which help them stay connected within Floris UMC and grow in their relationship with God. The coordinator ensures that the Adult GROW Ministries is fully integrated across all ministries, staffing needs are addressed and managed accordingly, and that the program supports the focus areas of the church (Worship, Grow, and Service). Candidates must have a BA or equivalent and/or a minimum of 4 years experience in directing a large program area that required using a diverse set of administrative skills to manage a large and expanding adult learning program. Knowledge of theory and techniques required to manage and maintain a vital Adult Ministry in a large church is desired, but similar experience that demonstrates knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions and resource allocation in a learning environment could be substituted. Christian Education and Youth Event Coordinator at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean, VA

Director of Church Relations at Chapman University 

Responsibilities include staff oversight, student recruitment, fund-raising and development, pastoral care for the larger Chapman community, and liaison to the local, regional and national DOC and UCC denominations.
