The mission of the Office of Housing staff is to help facilitiate community on campus by ensuring that residents are able to live in a safe and nurturing environment. We work under the auspice of the Associate Dean of Community Life to promote campus wellness. Please introduce yourself if you see one of us on campus!
The Director of Community Life and Housing works in the Housing Office (located in the NRH) Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:30 pm. The Director oversees all Housing programs at Wesley besides the Course of Study Housing program, and assists the Associate Dean of Community Life with new student programs (Academic Planning, Community Life Orientation) and community life events. The Director makes all housing assignments and acts as the liaison between the Office of Facilities and residents in the event of building/parking needs.
The Director is required to live on campus and resides in Carroll Residence Hall. If you are in need of housing assistance after office hours, please contact the Resident Manager on duty before attempting to contact the Director.
4500 Massachusetts Ave (Carroll, Straughn or the New Residence Hall)
There are eight Resident Managers who reside in either Carroll, Straughn or the New Residence Hall. These students work when the Office of Housing is not open (4:30 pm-8:30 am, Monday through Friday, weekends and holidays) and also for one morning or afternoon shift each. Two Resident Managers are on duty each evening, one with Primary responsibilities, and one with Secondary responsibilities. Primary duty RMs are required to be stay on campus while on duty. Secondary duty RMs must be no more than 30 minutes from campus when they are on duty. Both Primary and Secondary RMs carry a duty phone while working. If you require assistance with a housing matter when the Office of Housing is closed, please call (202) 246-8251. If the phone is not answered, leave a message and the RM will return your call within 30 minutes.
Resident Managers can assist with lock-outs, can provide housing information, can check guests into campus housing, supply linen, and can forward your issue to the appropriate staff member in the event of plumbing or facility emergency. For all other emergencies, please dial 911.
In addition to their hospitality duties when on-call, Resident Managers function as premier student leaders at Wesley. Each Fall and Spring semester, RMs will plan a community-building project for the residents and students of Wesley.
908 Massachusetts Ave (Birch Mount Vernon Square Intentional Community)
There are two Resident Managers who reside in Birch Residence Hall who work with the students living in Intentional Community there. These Resident Managers share their on-duty time specifically for the residents of the Intentional Community. They facilitate meetings with community members, address community concerns when necessary, and work closely with the MVS Mentor, the Associate Dean of Community Life and the Director of Housing to meet the needs of the Intentional Community. MVS RMs participate and facilitate community within the Intentional Community.
Our student workers are frequently the first face you will see when you visit the Housing Office. They are able to assist with questions in the office, by email and over the phone, give tours of the Residence Halls and participate in the planning and execution of New Student activities. Student Workers work only during office hours (4:30 pm-8:30 am, Monday through Friday, weekends and holidays), or during specific activities/events. Each of our student workers has a specific area of expertise in our office as well-- helping with publications and notifications, special events/event planning, and assisting with the guest housing program at Wesley.
