OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES
On-Campus Employment
There are a limited number of on-campus employment opportunities at Wesley that are open to all students (both domestic and international). The good news is international students do not need approval from ISS before accepting on-campus employment. However, once hired, you will be required to apply for a Social Security number. In order to successfully complete your Social Security application, you will need a letter from ISS regarding your employment. So, while you do not need any authorization from ISS to work on campus, you will have to coordinate with ISS to secure documents necessary for the employment process.
The following regulations apply to on-campus employment for F-1 international students:
- F-1 students may not work on campus more than 20 hours per week when classes are in session.
- F-1 students may work more than 20 hours per week during official breaks in classes (such as winter break, summer, etc.).
- An F-1 student may not work on campus once they have completed their program and are in their 60-day grace period or on Active OPT. Done with program = done with on-campus employment.
- Spouses of F-1 students may not work at all, ever, not even a little bit.
Working for the Dean's Office/Reception Desk:
Hi. I'm Brook. Currently, I am working in the business office at the reception desk which is under the umbrella of the dean’s office. The office is a delight to work in since I meet up with people in need of help of direction, and room reservations. I have worked in the Dean's Office for three years now. It has been great to work in such a fun place along side people with a great sense of humor who are also very supportive and inclusive. My general responsibilities include: answering phones, copying, shredding, filing, organizing events, researching, writing simple journals and fetching mail to and from the copy room etc. Sometimes I am also deployed in the housing office and the registrar's office whenever help is needed. Most importantly, the dean’s office has been a great place to learn how to serve people.
Working in the Dean's Office/Office of Community Life:
I’m Yo, a student worker at Deans’ Office. I assist staff persons in coordinating office procedures and activities, as well as special projects such as New Students Orientation and Community Enrichment Hours. Working on the Wesley campus has been a rewarding and valuable learning experience. I gained practical on-the-job experience in a work setting, earned money for my education, and learned inter-personal communication and problem solving skills as a team player. But more than anything, the experience has allowed me to see Wesley not just as an academic institution, but as a living community in its exciting and ever-changing environment.
