The Center for Public Theology Presents An Evening With Dr. Robert P. Jones: "The End of White Christian America and Its Implications for the 2016 Election"
Dr. Robert P. Jones, the founding CEO of Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), will discuss his new book, "The End of White Christian America," at a public event September 29, 2016, sponsored by the Center for Public Theology, a program of the Institute for Community Engagement at Wesley Theological Seminary. The event will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wesley Downtown, 900 Massachusetts Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C.
Jones' book has been hailed by The New York Times Review of Books as “quite possibly the most illuminating text for this election year.”
A leading scholar and commentator on religion and politics, Jones holds a Ph.D. in religion from Emory University and a M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. For his latest book, drawing on decades of public opinion and demographic research, Jones challenges us to grasp a new reality—that America is no longer a majority white Christian nation—and examines what influence this will have on the 2016 presidential election.
The presentation and discussion will provide unique insight into:
* The ways both political parties are responding to these shifts, including Donald Trump’s observed appeal to white conservative Christian voters;
* The disagreements between white and black Americans over the fairness of the justice system;
* The tone of arguments regarding same-sex marriage and LGBT rights;
* How our understanding of principles such as equality, fairness, and religious freedom are impacted by these recent demographic and cultural changes.
The evening's discussion will be moderated by former White House press secretary, Distinguished Professor of Public Theology, and Center for Public Theology Director Mike McCurry.
The event will be held at Wesley Downtown, located at 900 Massachusetts Avenue NW in Washington, D.C.
The evening is free and open to the public. Space is limited. Please click to register here.
