Academic Planning

All M.A., M.T.S. and M.Div. students are required to attend an Academic Planning session, which will include a presentation of the degree program requirements and an overview of the academic planning and advising programs. Special (non-degree) students are not required to attend but are encouraged to do so as they are able.

Academic Planning for Spring 2021 will take place virtually. Additional information will be provided following registration.

Traditionally, the session begins with devotion, followed by a meal and introductions. At that time we will begin the degree program overview. At community life orientation in the fall, you will have a full day of worship, community building, and seminars designed to answer the questions you may have at this point in your journey.

Your Roadmap to Success at Wesley

As a student at Wesley, you are ultimately responsible for insuring that you fulfill the requirements for your program and that you are progressing toward the completion of your degree. We are committed to helping you by providing information about the academic requirements in the Seminary Catalog and the Student Handbook.

We will assign you a faculty advisor who can give guidance as you plan your program. At Community Life Orientation, you will be able to meet with your advisor and schedule an appointment to develop a long-range degree plan which will be submitted to the Registrar's Office. You will receive more information about this process at the Academic Planning session.

M.A. Students

M.Div. and M.T.S. Students

The M.Div. and M.T.S. degree programs have an identical core of courses that build a foundation for the degree. These courses are in the following areas:

Introduction to Hebrew Bible (BI-101 and BI-102)
Introduction to New Testament (BI-171 and BI-172)
Introduction to the History of Christianity (CH-101 and CH-102)

In addition, the M.Div. degree has additional core courses that, along with the courses listed above, should be completed in the first 27 hours. These courses are in the following areas:

Foundations of Christian Worship (PW-101)
Spiritual Formation for the Practice of Ministry (MM-101 and MM-102)

As a new student, plan on taking at least one required course during your first semester. You should plan your course load based on your full-time or part-time status and the amount of time in which you plan to complete your degree. In the Catalog, you will find templates to be used as models for academic plans.
