In Their Own Words: How Wesley Expanded Graduates’ Understandings
Nila Curry (M.Div., MTS)
Ntozake Shange said, “I found God in myself...and I loved her. I loved her fiercely.” Who would’ve thought God could be so beautiful, Black, and feminine? This laborious yet metamorphic journey, namely Wesley Theological Seminary, has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to re-envision God and self.
Daniel Chun (M.Div.)
Wesley Theological Seminary for me I believe, like many of my seminary colleagues, has been a journey mixed with academic enrichment along with spiritual, theological, and practical wrestling. Wesley Theological Seminary expanded my understanding of God by teaching me how to connect my theological learnings with practical practices in my own local context.
Renee Delgado (MA)
My time at Wesley was life-changing. My view of God became more open and relevant through interactions with professors, discussions with other students, and working through assignments. I have a deeper understanding of God and God’s work in the world.
Lauren Bennett (M.Div.)
Surrounded by people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities at Wesley, my faith in God was strengthened and understanding of ministry widened. I thought I would come to seminary to find answers to my questions of theology and religion, but instead, I am liberated from thinking there are right answers to find.
Michael Barr (MTS)
I was a mid-career seminarian and feel grateful to have had the opportunity — at a time of life when school is most appreciated — to complete the dual degree between Wesley and American University, where I studied international peace and conflict resolution. I have more confidence in my understanding of God and a hopefulness about my place in God's plan.
Rev. Kelly Grimes (D.Min.)
The Wesley D.Min. expanded my ideas of the impact of the Wesleyan tradition on the world. Being in the first Cambridge cohort in the UK gave me the opportunity to learn from Wesleyan leaders from around the world, hear from my cohort classmates about what ministries are impactful for their context, see our similarities and see our unique ministry experiences, and learn new ways to engage in my local community from this global perspective.
