Michael Barr (MTS)

I was a mid-career seminarian and feel grateful to have had the opportunity — at a time of life when school is most appreciated — to complete the dual degree between Wesley and American University, where I studied international peace and conflict resolution. I have more confidence in my understanding of God and a hopefulness about my place in God's plan. I gained a strong and abiding appreciation for the context in which the Israelites and early Christian's lived and wrote, the social and political pressures and uncertainties that led to a reliance on God’s faithfulness, and a deep desire to preserve a text that will express that love. I have also gained an understanding of Christ himself as animated by a Spirit that seeks to restore and establish justice in relationships. This collaborative witness of the Word of God throughout the ages informs my call to ministry as a mediator and peacemaker in the local church or an international organization. In addition to informing this passion of mine theologically, Wesley allowed me to connect it to the public square and the arts.

After graduation, I hope to pursue a role in the local church or international peacebuilding.
