Partner Schools and Programs

NCES is a semester-long, intensive program of study in ethics, theology and public policy. Seminary students from across the United States come to Wesley in Washington, D.C., for the spring semester.

NCES is open to any student who attends an accredited seminary and is in good standing at their home seminary.

Students from participating institutions are charged for tuition at their home institution's regular tuition rate and pay these charges through their home seminary.

Other NCES students pay tuition directly to Wesley Theological Seminary at Wesley's regular tuition rate. On-campus housing and meals are available.

Washington Theological Consortium is a group of more than a dozen seminaries and schools of theology in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Wesley’s membership in the consortium affords you a rich array of opportunities through connection with these other full member institutions:

• Capital Bible Seminary
• The School of Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America
• Howard University Divinity School
• John Leland Center for Theological Studies
• Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg
• The Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies

Additionally, the consortium includes the following associate and affiliated members:

If you are an M.Div. student:

• You are required to take at least one elective course (of two or more credits) at a member institution of the consortium.
• A non-Wesley faculty member must teach this course.
• The dean must approve taking multiple consortium courses in the same semester. 

If you are an M.T.S. or M.A. degree student at Wesley, you may take a course at one or more consortium schools during the fall and spring semesters without additional charge beyond the regular Wesley tuition rate.

HSP supplements and enriches the theological and ministerial education being offered in seminaries and universities, with academic courses and other activities addressing Hispanic history, ministry and theology.

Founded in 1988, it strives to influence theological education to both benefit from and respond to opportunities offered by the Latina/o community, by its scholars, ministers and leaders.

President David McAllister-Wilson and several of Wesley’s faculty members have attended the program "Through Hispanic Eyes" that HSP offers for non-Hispanic faculty and administrators.

Wesley has been honored to support and learn from the Hispanic Summer Program since 1995.

Taking Classes

You are permitted to take graduate courses at AU while paying the seminary’s hourly tuition rate if you:  

• Had a “B” average in college or
• Have satisfactorily completed 24 credit hours of theological studies

(AU undergraduate and graduate students are permitted to register for seminary courses on a comparable basis.)

Additionally you have access to certain American University resources, such as the:

• Libraries
• Fitness center
• Parking garage at Katzen Arts Center

Dual Degree Program

In cooperation with the American University School of International Service, Wesley offers the M.T.S. degree in conjunction with the:

• M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution or the
• M.A. in International Development

These dual degree programs uniquely combine graduate theological education with the theoretical and practical study of international peace and conflict resolution or international development.

AU’s SIS is the largest school of international relations in the United States. It offers you a rigorous, multidisciplinary program recognized worldwide for preparing you for participation in international affairs.

The dual degree:

• Retains specific core requirements from both programs.
• Shares the number of elective credits and the thesis requirement.
• Allows both institutions to recognize courses taken at the other.
• Reduces the number of total credit hours required to complete the degree.

If you want to enroll in the dual degree program, you need to familiarize yourself with the full requirements of the individual M.T.S. and M.A./IPCR degrees as published in each institution’s catalog.

• Wesley and Eastern Mennonite University’s Seminary allow reciprocal admission to the other seminary’s student community by offering a range of summer courses not otherwise available to the students. 
• You must complete the EMU Non-Degree Seeking Application to enroll.

Center for Deacon Education

In The United Methodist Church, The Order of Deacon:

• Leads the congregation in its servant ministry.
• Equips and supports all baptized Christians in their ministries alongside the Order of Elder.

Pfeiffer University in partnership with Wesley has joined together to establish The Center for Deacon Education – a unique program that completely focuses on Deacon ordination for certified candidates within the UMC.

It enables you to complete requirements for probationary membership and ordination as a Deacon without making life-changing alterations to your work schedule and other responsibilities.

Institute for Discipleship at Southwestern College:  The Institute for Discipleship at Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas, partners with Wesley in several ways. Most recently, the institutions created the Wesley Theological Seminary Lay Academy, featuring a series of guided, online courses that lay learners can take to complete a certificate program. Also, IFD and Wesley partner in offering online master’s-level youth ministry courses.

Shenandoah University, Winchester, Virginia, partners with Wesley on the 3+3 program, a way for motivated students to complete a BA and MDiv in six rather than the usual seven years, saving the students time and money. Shenandoah and Wesley also partner on a Youth Theology Institute, a two-week summer experience for high school students to explore theology, ministry, and service in rural Virginia and Washington, DC.
