General Chaplaincy Specialization

Those called to chaplaincy may serve in a wide variety of contexts from hospitals to hospice care, college campuses to military bases, in prisons and beyond. Wesley offers preparation as broad as the mission with courses grounded in the theology of care and with exciting opportunities for supervised clinical pastoral education in a number of different settings here in the nation’s capital. Earn a Specialization

Earn your Masters with a Specialization in General Chaplaincy

In addition to the Masters-level degree requirements, you can obtain a specialization in General Chaplaincy by taking the following requirements:

Required Courses:

PC 111 Pastoral Care and Counseling in Contexts (3 credits)
PC 201 Introduction to Chaplaincy (2 credits)
PC 491 or PC 493 CPE (3 to 6 credits)
Two electives to be selected in conversation with your advisor; can be in any discipline area that addresses core themes/theology of chaplaincy (credit varies); CPE may be considered as an elective if it is not being considered as part of the PMM sequence.

Admissions Information for Specialization

Admissions

The General Chaplaincy specialization is open to Master of Arts, Master of Divnity, and Master of Theological Studies degree students. Eligible degree students must declare their intent for participation in this specialization prior to the completion of one-third of their degree.

Students should submit a declaration application to the Registrar's Office to declare their intent.
