RECOVER ~ Mathew 11:28-30
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting upon you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. (Mathew 11:28-30, The Message)
As we journey together through this period of Lent, I am certain that each of us is experiencing a time of recovery. We may be recovering from the ravages of the COVID pandemic, the loss of a dear friend or family member, the turbulence of a Presidential election, the pain of racial or sexual discrimination, the hardship of economic uncertainties, the scarcity of in-person worship, or simply the fatigue from countless ZOOM meetings.
However, in the midst of our losses, I am lifted by knowing that no matter how deep or wide our losses may be, Jesus tells us that we will recover if we walk with him. It is this sense of certain recovery that leads me to the conclusion that indeed, “it is well with my soul”.
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
